Before Treatment Care:
- Avoid tanning or self-tanning creams in the areas to
be treated. Reschedule if needed.
- Stop aspirin (unless required medically) five days before
treatment. Stop tetracycline or other sun sensitizing medicines
three days before treatment.
- Stop Tretinoin (Retin-A and Renova) and glycolic/AHA
products one day before treatment.
On the day of treatment:
- Remove all make-up and wipe your face or other treatment
areas with alcohol or toner. Then apply Elamax anesthetic
cream 30 minutes before your scheduled treatment.
- After treatment your skin may feel warm like sunburn.
It may be red and more sensitive for one to three days.
Vessels will be more visible and pigment spots will appear
darker. Some swelling may be present. This is a normal
response to treatment.
- Cold moist compresses (water with ice cubes) or cold
packs will help to resolve any discomfort and reduce swelling
if needed. Apply moisturizer as needed.
- Make-up may be applied after treatment if desired.
For two days after each treatment:
- Use only a gentle non-drying cleanser such as Limu or
Cetaphil for two days after each treatment. Wash with cool
water and avoid hot water.
- Apply a soothing moisturized such as Sage & Citrus,
Restorative Marine, or Cetaphil lotion as often as needed.
Use good sun protection during the day and a hat if in
the sun.
- For stronger reactions such as welts, swelling or itching
you may be given a hydrocortisone cream to use three times
daily for three days after treatment.
- If any blisters or sores develop apply a healing ointment
(such as Nucelle, Bacitracin or similar) to keep the area
clean and moist and notify the doctor of any problems.
- Resume your prescribed skin care regimen after two days
or when your skin is no longer sensitive. Including any
medicated products or AHA Products.
