Botox Treatment Information
A safe and effective solution for dynamic wrinkles.
Most fine to medium wrinkles are the result of sun damage
and of simple aging. But many deep wrinkles are the result
of muscular action. These are called "dynamic wrinkles".
They include the frown lines that occur between the eyebrows,
the crowís feet or "laugh lines" at the outer corners of
the eyes, and brow furrows of the forehead.
These wrinkles may be softened and improved by methods such
as peels, Fraxel treatments, and by laser resurfacing. But
since they are caused by the action of small facial muscles,
they tend to eventually return. But there is a simple, safe,
and effective solution for these dynamic wrinkles.
The method consists of injecting tiny quantities of a biological
medicine called Botox into specific muscles that cause these
wrinkles. Botox is "Botulinum enterotoxin". This substance
does not harm the muscles. And it does not harm the nerves.
But it blocks the signals from the nerves to the muscles
so they do not contract. The area stays relaxed and the cause
of dynamic wrinkles is removed. The area treated looks more
open and relaxed and the wrinkles are markedly reduced.
Some patients tend to "frown" whenever they are concentrating.
Other people may think that they are angry, when they are
not. Or some may get headaches easily due to the facial tension.
And deep creases can form due to this frequent frowning.
With Botox this can be corrected. After treatment, even when
they attempt to frown, but the brow remains relaxed and smooth.
The result can be remarkable. They look more relaxed and
confident. Even headaches can be reduced in these patients.
The same is true for crowís feet. When you smile, your eyes
can still "light up" and be very natural and attractive.
But without the parallel wrinkles at the corner of the eyes
that can be distracting. The result is a more natural, softer
smile without the deep wrinkles.
Botox is not a permanent treatment, but it is long lasting.
Your first treatment will usually last four months. With
repeat treatments the results tend to last longer. Ultimately
one to two treatments a year will maintain the improvement.
The treatments are safe and effective treatment for dynamic
wrinkles.
The only side effect from Botox is usually some stinging
from the tiny injections. The area may be mildly sore or
feel bruised for one to two days. The benefits appear over
the first few days to one week after the first treatment.
Full information will be provided at your consultation before
deciding upon Botox treatment.
